Elephant 12.5" x 18"
I just finished this elephant drawing. I took this picture last time I was at the Reid Park Zoo, I wish I knew a little more about the elephant. I think I'll go back and find out more about him... or her. I thought it was going to take me forever but, actually wasn't too bad. It was fun! I love drawing new textures that I'm not used to doing, because it's always a nice learning process. You come out of it feeling like you learned something. I'm also working on an owl drawing that I used the powdered graphite ( turned to liquid) on. Hoping to get it done by the end of the weekend!

Wow this looks great Jennie, I've trien to draw an elephant a couple of time myself, but they have always ended up in the bin.

Thanks so much Grahame. You should never throw anything away no matter how bad, you can always go back later and laugh when you realize how much better you've gotten : )

I love what you've been doing with the colored pencils! Nice work. Did your sister like her gift?

Hello Jennie,
Thought it was about time I left a comment, after looking in frequently to see what you are doing.

This is a lovely work, one of my favorite subjects as well, but alas, have not done many in the last few years as the inspiration keeps getting farther and farther away (it being almost ten years now since my last trip to Africa).

Very nice job on this one; interesting composition, your darks and lights are all right on giving nice movement and modeling throughout, good detail yet leaving enough to the imagination.

My best to you .....

Thank you Terry, Glad you like it. I enjoyed working on it.

How nice to actually go to Africa. That must have been wonderful, lucky you!! The closest I get is the zoo - I'm not complaining, I go there a lot!

Hi Jennie, just wondering what camera/lens you use to photograph your subjects?

Also, sorry you didn't get to the sketch crawl. I chose the zoo (as I organized this round) and though it rained like crazy it was a beautiful morning.

Hi Kerrie, I have a Nikon D40X - I have the lens it came with an 18-55 and I bought a 70 - 300 lens. I use both a lot, depending on what I'm shooting. I keep saying I'm going to take a camera class. All this power and I really don't know how to use it..... correctly!

Hope things are good with you. Are you getting work in?

You did such a great job on this elephant! You captured the power of the creature and the underlying tenderness as well. They rip out a full grown tree and then tenderly caress their babies and in joyful greetings of each other.
